Me & My House Sign Tutorial

For those of your who love HGTV's Fixer Upper and drools over everything that Joanna & Chip touch (I'm guilty), here's MY version of THE MAGNOLIA MARKET, Me & My House sign.
This sign was handmade by me with lots of love!
So, MAGNOLIA FANS: How'd I do?

Well, you are just in luck because I've decided to make this project into a tutorial for everyone who is inspired for a little DIY!

Finished product is 49.5" x 13.5 " (pretty big - over 4' long)

Materials List:
1 - 12 x 4 wood panel
2 - 1 x 2 x 6 pine board
Sandpaper or Sander
Silhouette Cameo, homemade stencil or freehand, if you are good
Stain of your choice
Foam Brush & Cloth
Skill Saw
Screws
Screwdriver
2 different colors of Chalk Paint (I used Waverly elephant & white)
Paint & Wax brushes ( I used Waverly brand reccommended for chalk paint)
Sawtooth hooks or the hanger(s) of your choosing & hammer

Start by sanding all of your boards just enough so they are smooth

Cut your 1 x 2 x 6 pine boards (2 for the top & 2 for the sides) to fit snugly all the way around your 12 x 4 wood panel

Dust off all of your boards.
Stain your 4 frame pieces using a foam brush. I used Minwax Aged Oak.

Paint the whole panel (top side only) with your paint. This paint will be what color you want your letters to be. In this case I chose Elephant.

Afterwards your board looks like this

This next step can be done many different ways but, I chose to use my Shilhouette Cameo to design and cut the letters to the size of my board. I used Oracal 651 vinyl.
I applied my words to the boards.

Then I removed the application tape leaving the vinyl letters stuck to the board.

Paint over the entire board with your other paint choice. I used Waverly chalk paint in white.

I didn't wait very long, maybe 15-20 minutes until I started to peel the letters off using my hook tool or you can use an Xacto knife.

Your almost finished!

The next step I totally for got to snap pics but take all 4 of your side stained pieces and pre-drill 3 holes per side for your screws. Remember to line your side pieces up all the way around your board so you will know where to pre-drill your holes. Attach all 4 sides with screws and a drill.
Attach sawtooth hangers or any hanger of your choosing. I used 2 hangers each about 12" from each end.

I finished with Waverly's chalk wax by following the directions as stated on the back of the bottle.

AND YOUR DONE!

This project took me only a couple hours to do, but I am pretty skilled with wood and saws.
For those that try my tutorial out, please leave me a comment and a pic of your finished project.
